How does it work?
Each user has an individual workstation that consists of a standard
monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers (not included). However, instead
of connecting directly to a PC, these peripherals connect to the
SABERTOOTH V230 access
terminal.
The
inexpensive and highly reliable V230
access terminal connects to the terminal services software on the
host PC over standard Ethernet cables (plus routers, switches, etc.).
The terminal services software enables the host PC to create unique
and simultaneous user sessions so that each user gets their own
rich and robust PC experience. A PC that is running a desktop OS
(such as Microsoft Windows XP®) can support up to ten users.
Server operating systems (like Microsoft Windows 2003 Server®
or Linux) support up to 30 simultaneous users.
Commercially-branded
V230-like devices
are used in US, EU, Africa and Asia - nearly one million
units have been sold in more than 90 countries according
to the Virtualization Journal in its Article last August 14, 2008.

What
does OEM mean? OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. Sometimes
referred to as 'brown boxes' or 'white boxes', OEMs differ from
commecial releases in terms of branding and packaging but are essentially
the same in terms of quality and reliability, having been manufactured
by the same entity. OEMs are not counterfeit - OEMs are ORIGINAL
products that do not carry labels of known brands. As such, they
are less costly.
Meralco
Appliance Calculator (MAC) available from http://www.meralco.com.ph.
Above figures were generated based on 8 hours/day, 5 days
per week, 4 weeks/month usage of a V230 at 5 Watts, and
a CPU with a 500W Power Supply. Electrical consumption of
the monitor was not included as both setups would consume
the same power for monitor. Savings
from using V230 is over P 650.00 per month or easily P 8,000
per year! V230 pays for itself!
View
the 5-minute YouTube video below for an overview how a V230-like
virtualization device works and how simple it is to setup.
Two device versions are discussed - internal and external.
V230 is purely external to the PC - it does not involve opening
the CPU. V230 has a USB port that can accept USB 1.1 flash
drives/ thumb drives.
